Mark joined the NHS in his 30s after leaving his family's service without any formal qualifications, but a drive to make a difference. He started as a mental health support worker and went on to train as a basic nurse. He qualified at 37 and spent the next twenty years steadily rising. He even went back to operate in the same health center ward he was born in, taking on the function of ward manager. ' I attempted to change off a bedside light and felt like something wasn't right with me. I knew quickly it was a stroke.' In July 2023, after an active vacation kayaking and walking, Bob all of a sudden had a stroke. He was flown by air ambulance to University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, where he spent four weeks fixing up. 'I utilized the health club regularly and did neurorehabilitation online (NROL)'. NROL is a group rehab program for individuals who have had a stroke or have other neurological conditions. 'I had a structured timetable which provided me something to eagerly anticipate weekly - socially, emotionally and emotionally.' Bob thanked NHS staff for 'the great support' and the ongoing physiotherapy he received. Well done Bob and excellent work group! Early recognition of stroke signs can save lives. ' Working together with nurses and seeing the difference they made inspired me to think, 'I might do that!" Meet Sharon, a sexual health nurse and non-medical prescriber who began her nursing journey in 1985 at the Royal Liverpool Teaching Hospital. In 2010 she signed up with Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust and continues to serve clients in Hertfordshire. 'I enjoyed helping people and learning more about the body, so nursing just felt right.' Sharon reflects. Sharon has worked in male infertility, menopause, miscarriage and colposcopy among others, revealing the wide variety of areas in which nurses make a distinction. 'Truly, I can't consider a location where nurses do not make an effect in some kind,' Sharon confesses. On why her role is special, Sharon explains, 'The care, generosity, and compassion we bring make the nursing role distinct. As patient supporters, we help guarantee their journey is supported, notified, and really meaningful.' There are more than 50 different kinds of nursing roles readily available in the NHS.
